i actually initially fell for the more atmospheric stuff than the driving rhythms: Post-War (the song) was my first attraction and Let's Dance is one of the best acoustic covers of a rock and roll song ever (along with Josh Rouse's version of the Clash's Straight to Hell Josh Rouse - Straight To Hell (The Clash))

I liked him pretty quick. I thought I might not because of his association with Bright Eyes, who I find terribly boring, but M. Ward's songs have those driving rhythms I'm such a sucker for. Also, Trevor told me he's recording an album with Zooey Deschanel, for whom I'm also a sucker.

On a side note, I wasn't fully on board with John Prine until I saw him live. Music's weird that way.

Wow, it only took you a day to get on board, eh? I found M. Ward a slow-grower, personally, but now I'm definitely down.

By the way, what do you call an album/artist that takes you a while to appreciate? Pitchfork favors the term "grower," but I'd like something else. Hmm... Something to ponder in my own blog, I suppose!
